The Laimburg Research Centre cordially invite you to the Technical Meeting: New varietal developments for Blueberry and Sweet Cherry.
Climate change and evolving market conditions are making varietal choice an increasingly decisive factor for crop success. This technical meeting will focus on the latest varietal innovations in blueberry and cherry developed by the leading international breeding programs.
After a brief introductory session in the Main Hall-Aula Magna, dedicated to new Monilinia species (M. fructigena, M. laxa, M. polystroma and M. fructicola) and to strategies for the control of Drosophila suzukii, the activities will move to the experimental fields. Participants will have the opportunity to observe directly around twenty late ripening cherry varieties (e.g. KIR, Müncheberg, Final programs, etc.) and nearly fifty blueberry varieties (e.g. Fall Creek, Michigan State University, NC State University programs, etc.).
The site, characterized by warm autumns, cold and dry winters, and very hot summers, represents an ideal setting for evaluating cultivar resilience. The orchard, established from 2022 onwards and continuously updated, aims to characterize varieties in terms of earliness of production, yield and fruit quality.
The full programme is available on the website of the Laimburg Research Centre.
